Liam wrung his hands together as he compared forces. On one side, he had four leader cards, three elites, and a group of general minions. While their numbers weren’t too far off from those surrounding the pumphouse, he couldn’t help but worry that Valko had far more cards up his sleeves. Having everyone summoned made his head light though, forcing one of the skeleton warriors to hang back and keep him standing straight.

“This concerns me,” Oryl sighed as she looked him over. “We haven’t even begun, yet you’re already hanging by a thread.”

“And it won’t get any better, so can we please get started? Besides, I can put another point in ‘mind’, so long as I’m involved in the kill.”

“Yes, I’ll tell one of the ogres to use you as a club. Now, if you are done complaining, we are waiting on orders.”

“I believe it is fairly clear,” Ayaquin said and stepped in to push her arm against his to show her support. “I will go around the lake to deal with the astromancer. She must be taken down immediately, or else she will cast a spell that will affect the entire battlefield.”

“And we’d lose all of our minions,” he groaned with a nod. “I wondered why you were so worried about her. Okay, how will we know when you’re attacking her? I can barely see that far.”

“The rangers have tremendous eyesight,” Nesaphine replied. The ears on top of the mesker’s head were flicking around like crazy, likely because of all of the sounds happening around her. He could barely pick up on anything, but her superior hearing likely detected everyone’s breathing.

Liam fought back the urge to pace, not that his legs were sturdy enough to allow for it. The lake blurred in and out of focus, along with the enemies and his own minions. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep everyone summoned. In fact, he started to scan the area to see who was expendable, just to relieve his mana spending.

He was about to reduce the number of fire imps hopping around Oryl when a burst of stars fell on the other side of the lake, proving what an astromancer was capable of. No sooner had the area lit up than his rangers released their arrows, signaling the beginning of the battle.

“Stick with me, Liam,” Oryl ordered and nodded at the skeleton warrior so it would help their master walk over to her. “Also, if you have any booster cards, now is the time.”

Liam hadn’t forgotten about the Ring of Power and the Mana Scarf. Oryl had insisted that he wait until the battle started before applying them to himself, although he felt that the last one could have helped him from the start. With the ring and scarf applied, he gave the warlock a nod to announce he was as ready as his tipsy body would allow.

Valko’s minions didn’t waste any time. A cluster of knights charged their way, dressed in gold armor with black trim, boasting swords that could probably fetch him a small fortune at a collector shop.
